Rabbi Alter

Hello friends and fellow congregants! My name is Rabbi Ken Alter, and I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Long Island. I attended the Hillel School through the 12th grade. I attended Brooklyn College, continuing my Judaic studies in the evening. After graduating college, I studied in Israeli yeshivot.
I then worked for both IBM and Exxon and received my Master of Business Administration degree from Manhattan College. After working part-time as a Hebrew School teacher and youth advisor, I decided to pursue the rabbinate and was ordained in 1995.
I have been the Spiritual Leader of Congregation Ahavath Achim since 1995 and serve as principal of the Hebrew School. I am active in interfaith programs and serve as the Treasurer of the Colchester Clergy Association. I am the co-chair of the CAJE (Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education) Spirituality and Healing Network and a columnist for the Connecticut Jewish Leader newspaper.
